Let's do our part for breast cancer
I'm fundraising to help make the lives of families experiencing breast cancer that little bit easier.
Last year my close friend Kendall was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer. At 31, she had to face multipul surgeries, chemo therapy, losing her hair, the risk of losing her fertility and faced her own mortality. All this from a small lump in her breast. Kendall is on her journey to recovery and undergoing chemo therapy.
Please set a monthly reminder in your calendar to check your breasts. Look up the correct way to check them. To help start this conversation, spread awareness (and prove that "it is just hair and it will grow back"), I will be shaving my head at the end of the month. As women, many of us see our feminity in our hair. I have 44cms of undyed hair that I hide behind. I can't imagine losing it without choice.The hair will be donated to be made into a wig for someone who has lost their hair to cancer or alopecia.
The McGrath foundation funds nurses who support people experiencing breast cancer. Their nurses provide physical, psychological and emotional support from the time of diagnosis, throughout treatment. Kendall describes them a comfort and support in a time when your world is turned upside down. They can answer any question and help you process what happening.
