About the postcards:
This postcard
series of scarf girls was created as I painted my reality as a woman/ mum/
teacher/ illustrator going through breast cancer
treatment facing the daunting side effects of hair loss.
Looking at my
portraits puts you inside a moment to experience the courage, the healing, the
disbelief, the heartbreak, the fear, the laughter and the beauty shared in a
single expression.
These wordless
portraits of different women speak to you through the curves of a smile and
emotion through the eyes.
In this collection,
I've focused on the colours & the patterns of the headscarves that I wrap
around my naked head each day.
I’ve given each
portrait an exotic name as I transform into someone I hardly recognise in the
mirror each day.
Adding a bit of
humour & pretend enables me to deal with the evolving changes my body is
going through as I heal.
I hope the
postcards have the potential to connect with you as the viewer, that you can
interpret them in your own way that may give you meaning and some form of
healing power.
Life is a fragile,
beautiful thing. My paintings communicate the relationship between the delicate
nature of life and the resiliency that lies inside of each of us to face it
head on.
$2 from each
postcard will be donated to the McGrath foundation. Postcards are $5 each.
